Wofford Travels – 2019-10-16 – US Road Trip Begins
Greetings,
Today we begin another travel adventure, this time a national vs. international trip, going to states in the Midwest and South. And, what prompted this travel? A wedding in Dodge, Nebraska, for the brother of our daughter-in-law who lives in Greensboro, NC. And…since we’re not great fans of flying…we thought we’d tag on visits to some familiar, and some not so familiar, places in this expansive country!
We left our residence at 9:30 AM (odometer reading 17,750). A 10:30 leisurely brunch at the Carriage House in Winston-Salem of their “Signature” omelet got us off to a good start for the day. By 2:00 we made a rest stop and then crossed into the Central Time Zone in Tennessee around 4:15.
Anther rest stop at 5:15 brought us straight into a traffic slow down (first a stop, and then a crawl) for at least a half hour, with slight pickup for another 15 minutes. Radio news indicated it was the result of an accident in or near Lebanon, but we never saw one.
We were soon at good speed, reaching Nashville by 7:00 PM and then Clarksville by 8:00 – ODO 18,278 (528 miles) – our destination for the evening.
After unloading the car, we decided on O’Charley’s for dinner. We both had the “Steakhouse Wedge Salad” with 6 oz. of very tender meat and a small wedge (some may not be surprised as I am a great wedge fan…right Ravi?). And, it was Wednesday and free pie night (cherry for Tom and lemon meringue for me). For those who have an interest in these kinds of thing, the pies ranged in calories from 1,600 (gulp…probably my day’s food allotment) to 350 (my choice). Well, let’s just get this trip off to a good culinary start, right?! And thank you O’Charley’s for your menu with calorie information. It helped me make wise decisions!
On the way back to the hotel, we filled our almost empty tank (I topped it before we left) at $2.27 a gallon, or $2.24 if you had a Sam’s card.
Then it was lights out by about 11:00, early for us but now we are into “daylight “ mode.
Tomorrow: travel to Missouri.
